Remember the
Sabbath Day to keep it holy
(Exodus 20 : 8)

Introduction

Moses is the only prophet of God of the Old Testament, who is the first to write the Holy Bible on the earth, beginning with his own books of Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, and the Deuteronomy. The writing of those books began just 2.500 years later after the creation of the earth, even after the history of the first couple of our ancestors began to inhabit the earth.

The writing of the Bible was then followed by the other prophets, and even by the apostles of the New Testament, the last of which was the apostle John, who wrote the book of Revelation in the year 96. The servant of the Lord, Mrs. Ellen G. White said :

“During the first twenty-five hundred years of human history, there was no written revelation. Those who had been taught of God, communicated their knowledge to others, and it was handed down from father to son, through successive generations. The preparation of the written word began in the time of Moses. Inspired revelation were then embodied in an inspired book. This work continued during the long period of sixteen hundred years, — from Moses, the historian of creation and the law, to John, the recorder of the most sublime truths of the gospel.” The Great Controversy, p. 7.

The writing of the book of Revelation was popularly known among the Christian scholars, to be accomplished in 96. And this is also justified by James White, the husband of Mrs. Ellen G. White, in his booklet entitled : A Word to the Little Flock, p. 13.

Since it took 1.600 years to have accomplished the writing of the Bible,   then the history of creation of Adam and Eve would have been found from the following calculation : (2.500 years + 1.600 years) – 96 years = 4004 BC. This planet with Adam and Eve as its first inhabitants had been    created by the Lord in 4004 BC.

Note :  Dr. Frank Charles Thomson, DD, PH D in his “THE NEW CHAIN- REFERENCE BIBLE, fourth improved edition”, has found 4004 BC. to be the year of the fall of Adam and Eve in sin. That is indeed admirable, because without the help of THE SPIRIT OF PROPHECY from the end time prophets, he could have successfully come to the figure, which is only the least different from the figure of the inspired one.

 *  *

Prophet Moses has been inspired of the Lord to tell us of a very long history of the world 2.500 years before him in the past. And especially of the Law of God which consists of the ten commandments of the decalogues that applied and binding during the long period in the past. This is the reason why Moses was ever deemed by Mrs. White as the law scientist and the historian of World creation. And in regard to the Sabbath of the fourth commandment of the law, Moses said :

“AND GOD SPAKE ALL THESE WORDS, SAYING :

“REMEMBER THE SABBATH DAY TO KEEP IT HOLY. SIX DAYS SHALT THOU LABOUR, AND DO ALL THY WORK : BUT THE SEVENTH DAY IS THE SABBATH OF THE LORD THY GOD : IN IT THOU SHALT NOT DO ANY WORK, THOU, NOR THY SON, NOR THY DAUGHTER, THY MANSERVANT, NOR THY MAIDSERVANT, NOR THY CATTLE, NOR THY STRANGER THAT IS WITHIN THY GATES. FOR IN SIX DAYS THE LORD MADE HEAVEN AND EARTH, THE SEA, AND ALL THAT IN THEM IS, AND RESTED THE SEVENTH DAY : WHEREFORE THE LORD BLESSED THE SABBATH DAY, AND HALLOWED IT.“ — EXODUS 20 : 8 – 11.

Since the Sabbath law itself is the fourth commandment of the Basic Law of the Ten Commandments of God, then it should be admitted that ever since the beginning when the Law was imprinted by the Lord into the mind of men, then ever since the Sabbath law would have been obeyed and observed up to now. To this end the servant of the Lord said :

“Adam and Eve, at their creation, had a knowledge of the Law of God. It was printed on their hearts, and they understood its claims upon them.”(EGW.  MS 99, 1902.)

“The Law of God existed before man was created. It was adapted to the condition of holy beings, even angels were governed by it. After the fall, the principles of righteousness were unchanged. Nothing was taken from the law; not one of its holy precepts could be improved. And as it has existed from the beginning, so will it continue to exist throughout the ceaseless ages of eternity. “Concerning thy testimonies,” says the psalmist, “I have known of old that thou has founded them forever.”(EGW.  ST. April 15, 1886).

We also know, that though the completeness of the Law of the Ten Commandments of God were changeless, however, after the fall of Adam and Eve in sin, and even after more than 1600 years later after their fall, the Lord has killed nearly all the inhabitants of the earth of that time by the flood, except for Noah and his household. This is to prove that just during the first 1600 years of human history, those killed by the Lord for sinning against the Law are more in number than of those who obeyed it. The servant of the Lord, Bro. Houteff said :

“According to Biblical reckoning the flood came more than 1600 years after the creation. God originated the human race through Adam and Eve. Therefore, one people, one race, one language and nation from creation to the flood.”The Shepherd’s Rod, vol. 2, p. 41.

So about 900 years later after the flood in the time of Noah, the Ten Commandments of the same Law of God written on the decalogue were then delivered from the hands of God Himself right to Moses on the Mount Sinai.

The fact is clear now, that during the first 2.500 years of human history    the Basic Law of the Ten Commandments of God wherein the Sabbath of the fourth Commandment is, they are still complete and preserved by the Lord Himself, and were always observed and obeyed by the people up to the time of Moses.

How the Sabbath of the fourth
commandment be observed and obeyed in
the time of Moses

The servant of the Lord, Mrs. Ellen G. White wrote :

“The Lord commanded Moses to go and speak unto Pharaoh, bidding him to allow Israel to leave Egypt. For four hundred years they had been in Egypt, and had been in slavery to the Egyptians. They had been corrupted by idolatry, and the time came when God called them forth from Egypt, in order that they might obey His laws and keep His Sabbath, which He has instituted in Eden. He spoke the ten commandments to them in awful grandeur from Mount Sinai that they might understand the sacred and enduring character of the law, and build up the foundation of many generations, by teaching their children the binding claims of God’s holy precepts.” Fundamentals of Christian Education, p. 287.

“The mixed multitude that came up with the Israelites from Egypt were a source of continual temptation and trouble. They professed to have renounced idolatry and to worship the true God; but their early education and training had molded their habits and character, and they were more or less corrupted with idolatry and with irreverence for God. They were oftenest the ones to stir up strife and were the first to complain, and they leavened the camp with their idolatrous practices and their murmurings against God.

“Soon after the return into the wilderness, an instance of Sabbath violation occurred, under circumstances that rendered it a case of peculiar guilt. The Lord’s announcement that He would disinherit Israel had roused a spirit of rebellion. One of the people, angry at being excluded from Canaan, and determined to show his defiance of God’s law, ventured upon the open transgression of the fourth commandment by going out to gather sticks upon the Sabbath. During the sojourn in the wilderness the kindling of fires upon the seventh day had been strictly prohibited. The prohibition was not to extend to the land of Canaan, where the severity of the climate would often render fires a necessity; but in the wilderness, fire was not needed for warmth. The act of this man was a willful and deliberate violation of the fourth commandment — a sin, not of thoughtlessness or ignorance, but of presumption.

“He was taken in the act and brought before Moses. It had already been declared that Sabbath breaking should be punished with death, but it had not yet been revealed how the penalty was to be inflicted. The case was brought by Moses before the Lord, and the direction was given, “The man shall be surely put to death : the entire congregation shall stone him with stones without the camp.” Numbers 15 : 35. The sins of blasphemy and willful Sabbath breaking received the same punishment, being equally an expression of contempt for the authority of God.

“During the entire forty years in the wilderness, the people were every week reminded of the sacred obligation of the Sabbath, by the miracle of the manna.”
Patriarchs and Prophets, p.  408 – 409.

The servant of the Lord, Mrs. E. G. White further said :

“”Every week during their long sojourn in the wilderness the Israelites witnessed a threefold miracle, designed to impress their minds with the sacredness of the Sabbath : a double quantity of manna fell on the sixth day, none on the seventh, and the portion needed for the Sabbath was preserved sweet and pure, when if any were kept over at any other time it became unfit for use.

“In the circumstances connected with the giving of the manna, we have conclusive evidence that the Sabbath was not instituted, as many claim, when the law was given at Sinai. Before the Israelites came to Sinai they understood the Sabbath to be obligatory upon them. In being obliged to gather every Friday a double portion of manna in preparation for the Sabbath, when none would fall, the sacred nature of the day of rest was continually impressed upon them. And when some of the people went out on the Sabbath to gather manna, the Lord asked, “How long refuse ye to keep My commandments and My laws?”

“The children of Israel did eat manna forty years, until they came to a land inhabited : they did eat manna until they came unto the borders of the Land of Canaan..”  For forty years they were daily reminded by this miraculous provision, of God’s unfailing care and tender love. In the words of the psalmist, God gave them “of the corn of heaven. Man did eat angels’ food” (Psalm 78 : 24, 25) — that is, food provided for them by the angels. – – – – – – – –

“The manna, falling from heaven for the sustenance of Israel, was a type of Him who came from God to give life to the world. Said Jesus, “I am that Bread of life. Your fathers did eat manna in the wilderness, and are dead. This is the bread which cometh down from heaven. …… If any man eat of this bread, he shall live forever: and the bread that I will give is My flesh, which I will give for the life of the world.” John 6 : 48 – 51. And among the promises of blessing to God’s people in the future life it is written, “To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the hidden manna.” Revelation 2 : 17.  Patriarchs and Prophets, pp. 296, 297.

How the Sabbath law be observed
and obeyed up to the time of John the Baptist

Apostle Matthew ever said : “FOR ALL THE PROPHETS AND THE LAW  PROPHESIED UNTIL JOHN.” — MATTHEW 11 : 13.

Since not all the prophets of the Old Testament did prophesy, then according to the prophecies that having been interpreted unto THE SPIRIT OF PROPHECY publications, in the time of the end, we can assure you that they are none other than the prophets : Isaiah, Jeremiah, Ezekiel, Daniel, Hosea, Joel, Amos, Obadiah, Jonah, Micah, Nahum, Habakkuk, Zephaniah, Haggai, Zechariah, and Malachi.

Whereas the law that also did prophesy would be the ceremonial law of Moses, for this is the law that has much to do with the prophecies now interpreted in the SPIRIT OF PROPHECY.

Since the Bible consists of only two main divisions : The Ten Commandments of the Basic Law on the one side, and the Testimony of Jesus or THE SPIRIT OF PROPHECY of the By-laws on the other side, we may be sure that those prophecies and their interpretations should be categorized into the Testimony of Jesus or THE SPIRIT OF PROPHCY.    This should have been understood, because those prophecies and their interpretations must be observed and obeyed. Or else, it is a sin for transgressing the Basic Law of The Ten Commandments.

And for those of the Old Testament era, they are themselves bound to the ceremonial law of Moses. Since the ceremonial law of Moses is categorized into the “testimony of Jesus” to be observed and obeyed by the those living in Old Testament era, they are themselves bound by the law  to observe and to obey the ceremonial law of Moses. Or else, it would be sin against the Basic Law of the Ten Commandment.

With the prophets did prophesy up to the time of John the Baptist, we may be sure that the Lord God still has His honest people up to the time of John the Baptist. They are the commandments keeping people up to that time. And they are the true Sabbath keepers up to that time to welcome Jesus at His first advent in the Palestine.

How the Sabbath law
had ever been observed during the time of
the apostles and their followers

The servant of the Lord, Mrs. Ellen G. White ever wrote :

“In unmistakable language He testified to His regard for the Law of Jehovah. “Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets,” He said; “I am not come to destroy, but to fulfill. For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled. Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven : but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.”Matthew 5 : 17 – 19.” — Prophets and Kings, p. 183.

The law and the prophets means the Bible of the Old Testament. The law is the law of the Ten Commandments of God, wherein is the Sabbath of the fourth commandment. The prophets means the writings of the Old Testament prophets up to the time of John the Baptist.

After those prophets, then came Jesus, who was then baptized by John in the river Jordan. During His mission in the Palestine Jesus has ever said :  “If you love Me, keep My Commandments.” – John 14 : 15.

Since the laws available up to that time consist of only the law of the Ten Commandments of God and the ceremonial law of Moses, then the commandments of Jesus mentioned above will be none other than the Ten Commandments of God only. The law of the Ten Commandments is an everlasting law of God, whereas the ceremonial law of Moses is only temporary. Most of the rules of the ceremonial law would have met their fulfillment at the time when Jesus died on the cross of Calvary, and then expire for good.

May it be understood, therefore, that all those followers of Jesus, and even the apostles and their followers, after the time of Jesus on earth expires for good, all of those must be none other than the Sabbath keepers only.

However, we have also the Jews who were always against Jesus up to the time of His departure. They were basically non Christians. But according to their religion of Judaism, they were more zealous to keep the Sabbath commandment of God than Jesus Himself. Their religion of Judaism originated with the Bible of the Old Testament.

The only disciple of Jesus that fell in the unpardonable sin was J u d a s. However, he did not fall in sin for transgressing the Sabbath of the fourth commandment. He was then succeeded by Saul, who was called to the office of discipleship by Jesus Himself, when He was already back in Heaven.

It was Saul whom the Lord Himself promoted to the apostleship to serve the non Jewish people. His name was then changed to Paul. And this is Paul the apostle who established the Ephesian Church at the beginning. Concerning the apostle and his habit of keeping the Sabbath, let us read here below as follows :

“Now when they had passed through Amphipolis and Apollonia, they came to Thessalonica, where was a synagogue of the Jews : And Paul, AS HIS MANNER WAS, went in unto them, and THREE SABBATH DAYS reasoned with them out of the scriptures.” The Acts of the Apostles 17 : 1, 2.

“And he reasoned in the synagogue EVERY SABBATH, and persuaded the Jews and Greeks.” The Acts of the Apostles 18 : 4.

Paul has his personal habit of keeping the Sabbath according to the Law. That is the reason why he was several times found teaching the people from one Sabbath to another in the synagogue. This is to prove that up to this faithful servant of the Lord, the other apostles before him would have been of the same habit of keeping the law of God and the Sabbath inclusive.

Several centuries later, the gospel of the Kingdom has successfully penetrated most of the regions in Europe. Millions of people have been converted, and this has aroused the ire of the heathen against Christianity in Europe. Although the gospel available at the time was still limited to only the Law and the Testimony of “the all truth” of John 16 : 13.  Whereas “the things to come” as those promised by the Lord in John 16 : 13 were yet to come in the time of the end, through the end time prophets.

Several Centuries later after
the time of the apostles of Jesus

Several centuries later after the history of the apostles, we arrived at the fulfillment of Jesus’ own statement when He said :

“For then shall be great tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be. And except those days should be shortened, there should no flesh be saved : but for the elect’s sake those days shall be shortened.” Matthew 24 : 21, 22.

So horrible was the tribulation, that Jesus Himself had to admit, that except those days should be shortened, there should no flesh be saved. It was the greatest tribulation ever occurred in the history of humanity, such as was not since the beginning of the world to that time. The servant of the Lord, Mrs. White said :

“In the sixteenth century the Reformation, presenting an open Bible to the people, had sought admission to all the countries of Europe. Some nations welcomed it with gladness, as a messenger of Heaven. In other lands the papacy succeeded to a great extent in preventing its entrance; and the light of the Bible knowledge, with its elevating influence was almost wholly excluded. In one country, though the light found entrance, it was not comprehended by the darkness. For centuries, truth and error struggled for the mastery. At last the evil triumphed, and the truth of Heaven was thrust out.

The war against the Bible, carried forward for so many centuries in France, culminated in the scenes of the Revolution. That terrible out breaking was but the legitimate result of Rome’s suppression of the Scriptures.  – – – – – – – –

The suppression of the Scriptures during the period of papal supremacy was foretold by the prophets; and the Revelator points also to the terrible results that were to accrue especially to France from the domination of “the man of sin.”

Said the angel of the Lord : “The Holy City shall they tread underfoot forty and two months. And I will give power unto My two witnesses, and they shall prophesy a thousand two hundred and three score days, clothed in sackcloth ……”The Great Controversy, pp. 265, 266.

N o t e !  In her statement above the pope of Rome was dubbed by the servant of the Lord to be ‘the man of sin”.

The whole period of
the great tribulation is 1260 years

John the Revelator in his prophecy ever said :

“The angel of the Lord said : ……the holy city shall they tread under foot forty and two months. And I will give power unto my two witnesses, and they shall prophesy a thousand two hundred and three score days, clothed in sackcloth. …………………….

“And when they shall have finished their testimony, the beast that ascendeth out of the bottomless pit shall make war against them, and shall overcome them, and kill them. And their dead bodies shall lie in the street of the great city, which spiritually is called Sodom and Egypt, where also our Lord was crucified. …………………

“And they that dwell upon the earth shall rejoice over them, and make merry, and shall send gifts one to another ; because these two prophets tormented them that dwelt on the earth. And after three days and an half the Spirit of life from God entered into them, and they stood upon their feet ; and great fear fell upon them which saw them.” – Revelation 11 : 2 – 11.

The servant of the Lord, Mrs. White in her interpretation of the John’s prophecy has this to say :

“In the sixteenth century the Reformation, presenting an open Bible to the people, had sought admission to all the countries of Europe. Some nations welcomed it with gladness, as a messenger of Heaven. In other lands the papacy succeeded to a great extent in preventing its entrance; and the light of the Bible knowledge, with its elevating influences, was almost wholly excluded. In one country, though the light found entrance, it was not comprehended by the darkness. For centuries, truth and error struggled for the mastery. At last the evil triumphed, and the truth of Heaven was thrust out. “This is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light.” John 3 : 19. …………………………….

“The war against the Bible, carried forward for so many centuries in France, culminated in the scenes of the Revolution. That terrible out breaking was but the legitimate result of Rome’s suppression of the Scriptures.  ……………………

“The suppression of the Scriptures during the period of papal supremacy was foretold by the prophets ; and the Revelator points also to the terrible results that were to accrue especially to France from the domination of the “man of sin.”

Said the angel of the Lord : “The holy city shall they tread underfoot forty and two months. And I will give power unto My two witnesses, and they shall prophesy a thousand two hundred and three score days, clothed in sackcloth. ……….. The Great Controversy, pp. 265, 266.

“The period here mentioned — “forty and two months,” and “a thousand two hundred and three score days” — are the same, alike representing the time in which the church of Christ was to suffer oppression from Rome. The 1260 years of papal supremacy began in A.D. 538 and would therefore terminate in 1798. At that time a French army entered Rome and made the pope a prisoner, and he died in exile. Though a new pope was soon afterward elected, the papal hierarchy was never since been able to wield the power which it before possessed.”

“The persecution of the church did not continue throughout the entire period of the 1260 years. God in mercy to His people cut short the time of their fiery trial. In foretelling the “great tribulation” to befall the church, the Saviour said : ‘Except those days should be shortened there should no flesh be saved: but for the elect’s sake those days shall be shortened.” Matthew 24 : 22. Through the influence of the Reformation the persecution was brought to an end prior to 1798.” Great Controversy, p. 266, 267.

Papal supremacy began in 538, and then along several centuries later millions of Christians had been killed in an inexpressible cruelness at the hands of the Roman Popes and their people. The horror went on for several centuries up to the time, when the Lord Himself should have cut short the agony of the people by sending DR. Martin Luther and his fellow  reformers to change the situation. All those had died as martyrs at the hands of “the man of sin”, for defending the Law and the testimony available up to the time. And the truth itself, therefore,  that has changed the situation. To this DR. Luther has ever said :

“I will preach, discuss, and write; but I will constrain none, for faith is a voluntary act. See what I have done. I stood up against the pope, indulgences, and papists, but without violence or tumult. I put forward God’s word; I preached and wrote — this was all I did. And yet while I was asleep, the word that I had preached overthrew popery, so that neither prince nor emperor has done it so much harm. And yet I did nothing; the word alone did it all.” The Great Controversy, p. 190.

Followed here is attached to you a world history document of the gruesome acts of those Roman Catholic popes upon the Christians in the past.

A Supplement on the
CENTURIES OF PERSECUTION

“That the church of Rome has shed more innocent blood than any other institution that has ever existed among mankind, will be questioned by no Protestant who has a competent knowledge of history . . . It is impossible to form a complete conception of the multitude of her victims, and it quite certain that no powers of imagination can adequately realize their sufferings. “ W.E.H. Lecky, History of the Rise and Influence of the Spirit of Rationalism in Europe, Vol. 2, p. 32, 1910 ed.(An excellent, though lengthy, article describing in detail the right of the Roman Catholic Church to do this, will be found in The Catholic Encyclopedia, Vol. 12, p. 266.)

“For professing faith contrary to the teachings of the Church of Rome, history records the martyrdom of more than one hundred million people. A million Waldenses and Albigenses (Swiss and French Protestants) perished during a crusade proclaimed by Pope Innocent III in 1208. Beginning from the establishment of the Jesuits in 1540 to 1580, nine hundred thousand were destroyed. One hundred and fifty thousand perished by the Inquisition in thirty years. Within the space of thirty-eight years after the edict of Charles V against the Protestants, fifty thousand persons were hanged, beheaded, or burned alive for heresy. Eighteen thousand more perished during the administration of the Duke of Alva in five and a half years.” Brief Bible Readings, p. 16.

“The Catholic has some reason on his side when he calls for the temporal punishment of heretics, for he claims the true title of Christian for himself exclusively, and professes to be taught by the never-failing presence of the Spirit of God . . . It is not more ‘morally’ wrong to put a man to death for heresy than for murder . . . (and) in many cases persecution for religious opinions is not only permissible, but highly advisable and necessary.” “The Lawfulness of Persecution,” in The Rambler, 4, June 1849, pp. 119, 126 (English R. C. journal published from 1848 to 1862).

“‘The church,’ said (Martin) Luther . . . ‘has never burned a heretic’ . . . I reply that this argument proves not the opinion, but the ignorance or impudence of Luther. Since almost infinite numbers were either burned or otherwise killed, Luther either did not know it, and was therefore ignorant, or if he was not ignorant, he is convicted of impudence and falsehood; for that heretics were often burned by the church may be proved if we adduce a few examples.” Robert Bellarmine, Disputationes de Controversis Christianae Fidei (“Disputations Concerning Controversies of the Christian Faith”), Tom. II, cap. XXII (Bellarmine, later canonized, was a leading Jesuit leader and writer.)

“The orthodox doctrine, as formulated by St. Thomas Aquinas and confirmed and elaborated by later Dominicans and by Jesuits like the Blessed Robert Bellarmine Suarez, runs as follows:

“Heresy (as defined by Rome) is the willful holding by a baptized person of doctrines, which contradict an article of faith defined by the Catholic Church.” P. Hinschius, “Heresy,” The New Schaff Herzog Encyclopedia of Religious Knowledge, Vol. 5, pp. 234-235 (1909).

– – – – – – – – – – – – – – – –

N o t e :  Most of the Roman Catholic did not deny the historical facts of those  horrors in the past, but they also admitted their Church had been reformed ever since. That the present Catholic Church is no more the Catholic Church of old.

The Bible and the Law have been falsified
during the 1260 years of Roman supremacy

We have to know that when the writing of the book of Revelation was  complete in 96, then the whole Bible of the Old and the New Testaments ever since would have been available in the Church. Nevertheless, the Bible could not as yet be fully understood, because there are yet many things to be interpreted in the time of the end. Whereas only “the all truth” of John 16 : 13 had been fully revealed up to the time. Therefore, the Bible doctrine available up to the time will consist of just the Law and the testimony of “the all truth”. With the truth available at the time, the Church has to come up to face the time of the great tribulation, beginning in the sixth century. Thus it is, how the Bible and the Law had been falsified or manipulated to such extent, during the Roman supremacy,  consist  mainly  of,

(1)    “The all truth” as those promised by Jesus in John 16 : 13, and
(2)    “The Ten Commandments” of the basic Law of the Kingdom

But by the emergence of the servant of the Lord, DR. Martin Luther, on the stage of history as a reformer ever since 1.500, it is indeed very amazing.  With only a very simple slogan  “THE JUST SHALL LIVE BY FAITH”, he could have preserved his own life, and then to have the powerful papacy overthrown at last. He is not the only reformer to restore all the things lost during the great tribulation. But he has accomplished very much for every one of us in this time, namely of how to have a living faith in God. Therefore,  Mrs. White said :

“The Reformation did not, as many suppose, end with Luther. It is to be continued to the close of this world’s history. Luther had a great work to do in reflecting to others the light which God had permitted to shine upon him; yet he did not receive all the light which was to be given to the world. From that time to this, n e w  l i g h t  has been continually shining upon the Scriptures, and new truths have been constantly unfolding.”The Story of Redemption, p. 353.

Therefore, the r e f o r m  to restore all the truth that had been falsified during the Roman supremacy had been carried out  as follows :

  1. Martin Luther,  and the truth he restored  : The just shall live by faith.
  2. John Knox,  and the truth he restored :  The Holy Spirit.
  3. John Wesley, and the truth he restored  : The  Grace
  4. Alexander Campbell, and the truth he restored: Baptism through immersion.
  5. William Miller, and the truth he restored : Purification of the sanctuary
  6. Mrs. E. G. White and the truth : The Sabbath of the fourth commandment.

And the next you will see how the Law of the Ten Commandments as the Basic Law of the Kingdom of Heaven had been willfully changed to meet the ambition of the pope of Rome.

The Law of God

How to identify the time
of the opening and the closing of the Sabbath Day

Due to the fact that ever since the beginning the Lord had imprinted the Law into the minds of Adam and Eve as citizens of the kingdom of God, wherein the Sabbath of the fourth commandment should have been observed ever since, then it would be unavoidably sure that the way to identify the beginning and the end of the Sabbath day should have been also informed to them as early as possible. That is the reason why the way to calculate the beginning and the end of a day has been given them very early ever since as proclaimed below :

“In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. ………………And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day.…………. And God saw every thing that He had made, and, behold, it was very good. And the evening and the morning were the sixth day.”Genesis 1 : 5, 31.

“The evening and the morning” means after one night and one day-light there will be one day. Such calculation seemed to apply up to the time of Jesus in the Palestine. They then calculated a day beginning from the sunset up to the next sunset of the following day. To that end let us read the following story :

“And, behold, there was a man named Joseph, a counselor; and he was a good man, and a just : (The same had not consented to the counsel and deed of them 😉 he was of Arimathea, a city of the Jews : who also himself waited for the kingdom of God. This man went unto Pilate, and begged the body of Christ. And he took it down, and wrapped it in linen, and laid it in a sepulcher that was hewn in stone, wherein never man before was laid.

“AND THAT DAY WAS THE PREPARATION, AND THE SABBATH DREW ON. And the women also, which came with him from Galilee, followed after, and beheld the sepulcher, and how his body was laid. And they returned, and prepared spices and ointments; and RESTED THE SABBATH DAY ACCORDING TO THE COMMANDMENT.

“Now upon THE FIRST DAY OF THE WEEK, VERY EARLY IN THE MORNING, they came unto the sepulcher, bringing the spices which they had prepared, and certain others with them. And they found the stone rolled away from the sepulcher. And they entered in, and found not the body of the Lord Jesus.” — Luke 23 : 50 – 56; 24 : 1 – 3.

The above story is indeed no more new for every one of us today. Jesus died on Friday afternoon. It is the day of preparation for the Sabbath. The next day is the Sabbath wherein all the followers of Jesus were to observe according to the Law of the Ten Commandments. And the next day is Sunday, the first day of the week. Let us be careful, therefore, that the Bible sanctioned only the following rules of calculation :

One day              =       one night  +  one day-light
One week           =       seven days
Sunday               =       the first day of the week
Friday                 =       preparation day on the sixth day of the week
Sabbath-day      =       Day of rest on the seventh day of the week

Christ’s death in Palestine was for fulfilling the requirement of the Law. The wage of sin is eternal death. For the transgression of the Law by Adam and Eve, and for evading the eternal death of men and women of this earth, Jesus bore the consequences of the eternal death by Himself. However, it does not mean that we are no more now under the Law of the Ten Commandments. Nor does it mean the Law was already crucified together with Jesus on the Cross. And then the Sabbath observance would have been expired.

The way of how to keep
the Sabbath Day holy according to the Law

There are several Christian denominations now in this time of the end having observed the Sabbath of the fourth commandment as their day of worship. This is to prove that they are at last convinced that it is the true day of worship to commemorate our God as the Creator and the seventh day of the week is God’s day of rest after accomplishing all the work of creation in six days of the week. However, the servant of the Lord Mrs. White has ever warned us in the following words :

“I was shown that merely observing the Sabbath and praying morning and evening are not positive evidences that we are Christians. The outward forms may all be strictly observed, and yet true godliness be lacking.”1 Testimonies for the Church, p. 305.

Let us understand that we are now living in the time of the end. We can no more observe the Sabbath fully according to the way the Israelites kept their Sabbath observance in the time of Moses. Nor could we follow the example of those keeping their Sabbath observance in the time of Jesus, nor follow the example of those living in the time of the apostle Paul. We already have our own end time prophets to consult for our own safety of how to keep the Sabbath holy in this time of the end. Therefore, let us put our trust fully upon the SPIRIT OF PROPHECY  for consultation.

Due to the fact that Heaven is a state of a Kingdom with God Himself is the King of the whole universe. Then as well as all the states of the world here on earth, have their national Days respectively to commemorate once a year the establishment of their country, and to commemorate the pioneers who established their country ever since the beginning. Why are we not willing to keep the Sabbath of God, to commemorate every week our God as Creator of the universe who had ever since created our world in six days, and rested on the seventh, to commemorate the seventh-day of the week as His Great Day of Rest for all of us to follow suit ?

Why is Sunday to become the day of rest for all the inhabitants of the world up to now ? Is it not the day of those worshipping the Sun ever since the dark ages of the past ? The originator of the Sunday worship is not  known ever since the beginning. But we could be sure that it is originated with the Popes of Roman Catholic Church during the 1260 years of tribulation in the past.  Let us return to the Lord to worship him according to His will as those stipulated in the Law of the Ten Commandments. And the Sabbath of the fourth commandment is a must for every one of us to observe to commemorate Him as our maker, who will care of our salvation   up to the coming Kingdom in the Palestine.

The Fourth Commandment

The Lord God Himself blessed the Sabbath-day and hallowed it for us to follow suit. Therefore,  if there are yet many more of men today, to willfully  desecrate the blessed and holy Day of God while worshipping and praising His name in vain from day to day and from one week to another, let them always remember that the consequences are indeed very serious. Let them remember the fate of those men and women in the time of Noah. Millions upon millions died in the flood, whereas only Noah and his family of eight survived the tragedy. Through His mouth-piece, we are warned by Mrs. White in the following words :

“Faith in a lie will not have a sanctifying influence upon the life or character. No error is truth, or can be made truth by repetition, or by faith in it. Sincerity will never save a soul from the consequences of believing an error. Without sincerity there is no true religion, but sincerity in a false religion will never save a man. I may be perfectly sincere in following a wrong road, but that will not make it the right road, or bring me to the place I wished to reach. The Lord does not want us to have a blind credulity, and call that the faith that sanctifies. The truth is the principle that sanctifies, and therefore, it becomes us to know what truth is.” — 2 Selected Messages, p. 56.
