The Angels
of Revelation 7 and their mission

The prophets who edify the body of Christ or the Christian Church, have been defined by apostle Paul as follows :   

“And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers; for the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the  ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ : till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge  of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ : that we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive.” – Ephesians 4 : 11 – 14.

The above statement by apostle Paul was later simplified further by Mrs. White in the SPIRIT OF PROPHECY as follows :

“God has a church, and she has a divinely appointed ministry. ‘And He gave some apostles; and some, prophets; and some evangelists, and some pastors and teachers; for the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ ………….. etc.“ – Testimonies to Ministers, p. 52.

Everyone who ever professed to be Christian should have honestly admitted that apostle Paul has been divinely appointed of the Lord specifically for serving the people in the New Testament era. This means that Paul should have been divinely appointed for the Laodicean Church also in this time of the end. Although he is no more alive among us today, all of his epistle would ever live and bind upon all of us up to the end of time.

And that is the reason why according to the identities and the function of each of the divinely appointed job mentioned above, we would be surely convinced that,

Due to the fact that the divinely appointed apostles have all died in the first century, then “prophet” as the second in rank of the hierarchy should have taken the job of leadership of the whole ministry.  

Furthermore, that should be known also, since there is only o n e body of Christ to be edified, let us be aware that not all Christian Churches today in this time of the end have ever been edified by God’s divinely appointed prophets of those mentioned above.

The fact now is that by God’s own providence that the divinely appointed prophets mentioned above have now been perpetuated in the world history records. Thus their ever presence in the past and the body of Christ edified by them during their life time would always testify for good of which is the true Church of God up to the end of time.

“And I heard the number of them which were sealed : and there were sealed an hundred and forty and four thousand of all the tribes of the children of Israel.” – Revelation 7 : 2 – 4. 



A message from the servant of the Lord who ascended in the east is the newest doctrinal truth of the Bible concerning the sealing of the mark of deliverance upon the foreheads of the 144.000 elected saints of God in the future. The message would include all sorts of catastrophe and even war that are to occur as soon as after the accomplishment of the sealing upon the 144.000 saints of God as those predicted through the prophecy of Ezekiel 9. 

(3) The angel that is silent represents people such as the ministers of the gospel. As an example John the Revelator said : 

“And unto the angel of the church of the Laodiceans write; These things saith the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the beginning of the creation of God; I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot: I would thou wert cold or hot. So then, because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spew thee out of my mouth.” – Revelation 3 : 14 – 16.  

The silent angel of the Church of the Laodiceans represents the ministers of the Church of Laodicea or Seventh day Adventist Church.

Regarding this angel John the Revelator ever said :  

“And I saw another angel ascending from the east, having the seal of the living God : and he cried with a loud voice to the four angels, to whom it was given to hurt the earth and the sea. Saying, Hurt not the earth, neither the sea, nor the trees, till we have sealed the servants of our God in their foreheads.

“And I heard the number of them which were sealed : and there were sealed an hundred and forty and four thousand of all the tribes of the children of Israel.” – Revelation 7 : 2 – 4.

In his interpretation of the verses the servant of the Lord Bro. Houteff said :    

“In 1844, as all Seventh day Adventists know, Sister White was given a vision of the 144.000, signalizing the sealing angel’s starting his ascent from the east (Rev. 7 : 2 – 4) From then on he was ascending and the saints were awaiting his arrival. Finally, in 1929, through the Sabbath School Lessons the Lord announced throughout the Seventh day Adventist Denomination that the angel had arrived. – 1 Shepherd’s Rod pocked edition, p. 10.

The angel that ascended from the east represents Mrs. E.G. White and her new message of the sealing of the 144.000 elected saints of God in the future.  Her coming was after Bro. William Miller who had earlier come with the message of the purification of the sanctuary that began to take place in October 22, 1844. as predicted in Daniel 8 : 14.

Every student of Bible prophecies would have understood that the servant of the Lord Bro. William Miller ever since the beginning had come as the first angel message of Revelation 14 : 6 – 7, to proclaim the purification of the sanctuary both in heaven and on earth through the process of investigative judgment. The judgment would have first begun on the cases of the dead. The second angel message of Revelation 14 : 8 represents the proclamation to the public of the fall of the whole Christian world, as represented by the fall of Babylon after the Flood in the time of Noah, as the result of Miller’s fault of teaching the second coming of Jesus in October 22, 1844 to purify the world with fire, instead of teaching the purification of the sanctuary both in heaven and on earth.

Due to the fact that every new truth would never discard the old ones,  that by the coming of Mrs. White and her message of the third angel of Rev. 14, it would have been revealed of how the investigative judgment should have first begun on the cases of the dead, and then to the cases of the living. And then how the living saints of the 144.000 elects of God would have emerged on the stage of history.

“Most of my father’s family were full believers in the advent, and for bearing testimony to this glorious doctrine seven of us were at one time cast out of the Methodist Church. At this time the words of the prophet were exceedingly precious to us : “Your brethren that hated you, that cast you out for My name’s sake, said, Let the Lord be glorified : but He shall appear to your joy, and they shall be ashamed.” Isa. 66 : 5.

“From this time, up to December, 1844, my joys, trials, and disappointments were like those of my dear Advent friends around me. At this time I visited one of our Advent sisters, and in the morning we bowed around the family altar. It was not an exciting occasion, and there were but five of us present, all women. While I was praying, the power of God came upon me as I had never felt it before. I was wrapped in a vision of God’s glory, and seemed to be rising higher and higher from the earth, and was shown something of the travels of the Advent people to the Holy City as narrated below. 

MY FIRST VISION

“As God has shown me the travels of the Advent people to the Holy City and the rich reward to be given those who wait the return of their Lord from the wedding, it may be my duty to give you a short sketch of what God has revealed to me. The dear saints have many trials to pass through. But our light affliction, which are but for a moment, will work for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight  of glory — while we look not at the things which are seen, for the things which are seen are temporal, but the things which are not seen are eternal. I have tried to bring back a good report and a few grapes from the heavenly Canaan, for which many would stone me, as the congregation bade stone Caleb and Joshua for their report. (Number 14 : 10). But I declare to you, my brethren and sisters in the Lord, it is a goodly land, and we are well able to go up and posses it. 

“While I was praying at the family altar, the Holy Ghost fell upon me, and I seemed to be rising higher and higher, far above the dark world. I turned to look for the Advent people in the world, but could not find them, when a voice said to me, “Look again, and look a little higher.” At his I raised may eyes, and saw a straight and narrow path, cast up high above the world. On this path the Advent people were traveling to the city, which was at the farther end of the path. They had a bright light set up behind them at the beginning of the path, which an angel told me was the midnight cry. This light shone all along the path and gave light for their feet so that they might not stumble. If they kept their eyes fixed on Jesus, who was just before them, leading them to the city, they were safe.  But soon some grew weary, and said the city was a great way off, and they expected to have entered it before.  Then Jesus would encourage them by raising His glorious right arm, and from His arm came a light which waved over the Advent band, and they shouted, “Alleluia !” Others rashly denied the light behind them and said that it was not God that had led them out so far. The light behind them went out, leaving their feet in perfect darkness, and they stumbled and lost sight of the mark and of Jesus, and fell off the path down into the dark and wicked world below.

“Soon we heard the voice of God like many waters, which gave us the day and hour of Jesus’ coming. The living saints, 144.000 in number, knew and understood the voice, while the wicked thought it was thunder and an earthquake. When God spoke the time, He poured upon us the Holy Ghost, and our faces began to light up and shine with the glory of God, as Moses’ did when he came down from the Mount Sinai.

“The 144.000 were all sealed and perfectly united. On their foreheads was written, God, New Jerusalem, and a glorious star containing Jesus’ new name. At our happy, holy state the wicked were enraged, and would rush violently up to lay hands on us to thrust us into prison, when we would stretch forth the hand in the name of the Lord, and they would fall helpless to the ground. Then it was that the synagogue of Satan knew that God had loved us who could was one another’s feet and salute the brethren with a holy kiss, and they worshiped at our feet.

“Soon our eyes were drawn to the east, for a small black cloud had appeared, about half as large as a man’s hand, which we all knew was the sign of the Son of man.  We all in solemn silence gazed on the cloud as it drew nearer and became lighter, glorious, and still more glorious, till it was a great white cloud. The bottom appeared like fire; a rainbow was over the cloud, while around it were ten thousand angels, singing a most lovely song ; and upon it sat the Son of man. His hair was white and curly and lay on His shoulders; and upon His head were many crowns His feet had the appearance of fire; in His right hand was a sharp sickle; in His left, a silver trumpet. His eyes were as a flame of fire, which searched His children through and through. Then all faces gathered paleness, and those that had rejected gathered blackness. Then we all cried out, “Who shall be able to stand ? Is my robe spotless ?” Then the angels ceased to sing, and there was some time of awful silence, when Jesus spoke : “Those who have clean hands and pure hearts shall be able to stand; My grace is sufficient for you.” At this our faces lighted up, and joy filled every heart. And the angels struck a note higher and sang again, while the cloud drew still nearer the earth.

“Then Jesus’ silver trumpet sounded, as He descended on the cloud, wrapped in flames of fire. He gazed on the graves of the sleeping saints, then raised His eyes and hands to heaven, and cried, “Awake ! awake ! awake ! ye that sleep in the dust, and arise.” Then there was a mighty earthquake. The graves opened, and the dead came up clothed with immortality. The 144.000 shouted, “Alleluia !” as they recognized their friends who had been torn from them by death, and in the same moment we were changed  and caught up together with them to meet the Lord in the air.

“We all entered the cloud together, and were seven days ascending to the sea of glass, when Jesus brought the crowns, and with His own right hand placed them on our heads. He gave us harps of gold and palms of victory. Here on the sea of glass the 144.000 stood in a perfect square. Some of them had very bright crowns, others not so bright. Some crowns appeared heavy with stars, while others had but few. All were perfectly satisfied with their crowns. And they were all clothed with a glorious white mantle from their shoulders to their feet. Angels were all about us as we marched over the sea of glass to the gate of the city. Jesus raised His mighty, glorious arm, laid hold of the pearly gate, swung it back on its glittering hinges, and said to us, “You have washed your robes in My blood, stood stiffly for My truth, enter in.” We all marched in and felt that we had a perfect right in the city.“ — Early Writings, pp. 13 – 17.

Mrs. White was born at Gorham, Maine, USA, November 26, 1827. Her first vision told us above was given her soon after the great Advent disappointment in 1844, and was first published in 1846. Only a few of the events of the future were seen at that time. Later views have been more fully presented in her message the Spirit of Prophecy.  

Mrs. White has proven by herself, that though her back ground of education and health was so poor at the time of her appointment to the job as the voice of God to the Church, she has accomplished her job miraculously very well up to the time she died in 1915. She got the first vision at the age of 17, and later she died in her old age of 88.  Miracle indeed, but the more miracle today is that most of Seventh-day Adventists today and their leaders do no more fully believe in her epistle as the voice of God for today.

Let us remember, that since those things of the first vision are fully related to the Adventist people in the future, they are therefore unavoidably relating to us ourselves.

The angel that ascended
in the east will inevitably arrive in the west

Bro. Houteff ‘s explanation of the angel with the seal of the 144.000 elected saints of God in the future, had ever said :

“In 1844, as all Seventh day Adventists know, Sister White was given a vision of the 144.000, signalizing the sealing angel’s starting his ascent from the east (Rev. 7 : 2 – 4) From then on he was ascending and the saints were awaiting his arrival. Finally, in 1929, through the Sabbath School Lessons the Lord announced throughout the Seventh day Adventist Denomination that the angel had arrived. – 1 Shepherd’s Rod pocked edition, p. 10.

If Mrs. White and her message was represented by the angel carrying the seal of the 144.000 that ascended in the east in 1844 (Rev. 7 : 2 – 4), then when the angel and the message arrived in the west, it should unavoidably be represented also by another angel. And that is the angel of Revelation 18 : 1. Thus was  Bro. Victor T. Houteff with the same message by the name “The Shepherd’s Rod”,  emerged in 1929 in Los Angeles, California, USA. And here is the reason why Mrs. White and her third angel’s message should have been complemented with the message of Revelation 18 : 1 into the so-called THE SPIRIT OF PROPHECY of Revelation 19 : 10 (margin) for to enlighten the whole world. To this end Mrs. White said :

“Then I saw another mighty angel commissioned to descend to the earth, to unite his voice with the third angel, and give power and force to his message. Great power and glory were imparted to the angel, and as he descended, the earth was lightened with his glory.” — Early Writings, p. 277.

The four winds of the earth
should be held from hurting the earth,
the sea, and the trees

John the Revelator said :
“And after these things I saw four angels standing on the four corners of the earth, holding the four winds of the earth, that the wind should not blow on the earth, nor on the sea, nor on any tree.“
“And I saw another angel ascending from the east, having the seal of the living God : and he cried with a loud voice to the four angels, to whom it was given to hurt the earth and the sea. Saying, Hurt not the earth, neither the sea, nor the trees, till we have sealed the servants of our God in their foreheads. — Revelation 7 : 1 – 3. 

Due to the fact that the angel first ascended from the east in Portland, Maine, in USA. and then descended in Los Angeles, California in the west of the USA, then “the earth” in this prophecy must unavoidably represent the United States of America. “The Sea” as the gathering place of all the waters of earth should unavoidably represent the land of Palestine. And    “the tree” which in the Bible ever represented the strong man of king Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon in the past, and in this prophecy it must unavoidably represent members of the 144.000 elected saints of God.
Though the 144.000 elected saints of God could not as yet be identified today among us, their actual presence in our midst ever since now and on could not be deniable.

The voice of the angel that carrying the seal, to the four angels commissioned to hold the four winds of the earth is, that they keep on holding the winds from blowing until the sealing of those 144.000 elected saints of God be accomplished, everyone of them on their foreheads. Thus, “the w i n d s“ should unavoidably represent the wrath of the wicked that consequently bring in a  w a r among the nations, and a catastrophe in many places.

Due to the fact that the main targets of the winds blowing are : (1) The earth of the USA, (2) the sea that represents the holy land of Palestine,  and the trees that represent the 144.000 elected saints of God in the future, then let us be fully beware that from the Bible prophecies themselves we have been warned by prophet Zechariah of old of a new war in the near future that will implicate many nations of today.  

When the winds
of earth be let loose to freely blow
on the earth and on the sea, and on the trees

Prophet Zechariah through his words of prophecy ever warned us of the consequences when the winds are let loose to blow, in the following words :  

Zechariah 14 : 2. “For I will gather all nations against Jerusalem to battle; and the city shall be taken, and the houses rifled, and the women ravished; and half of the city shall go forth into captivity, and the residue of the people shall not be cut off from the city.”

In regard to the coming war in the Palestine the servant of the Lord Bro. Houteff said :

“Through it all we see in Zechariah’s prophecy a prediction that one day Gentile nations would be engaged in rebuilding the Israelites kingdom in Palestine that was once destroyed. We see also that there is to be a world war in which Gentiles outside of the Palestine and the Gentiles within will be involved. In that war God’s people, Judah, Israel, and Jerusalem, are to be delivered and made free, and the kingdom will be rebuilt That is as plain as anything I have ever seen.“ — The Symbolic Codes, Vol. 13, No. 1, 2, p. 6.

Those to be implicated in the war are the state of Israel today (the Gentiles) in Palestine, who are to be backed by the USA and the European states as its alliances, against the Moslem countries who are to be sustained by the Communists powers who come to evict them from the holy land. The war will be a repetition between the king of the south against the king of the north.

Although in the coming war the state of Israel and its alliances are to fall, according to the prophecy, however, “the residue of the people shall not be cut off from the city.” – Zechariah 14 : 2.  You know why ? Because they are members of the 144.000 saints of God who have been sealed earlier a short time before the war.

The coming war in Palestine is actually still under the control of the Lord Himself, because as ever stated before : “Through it all we see in Zechariah’s prophecy a prediction that one day Gentile nations would be engaged in rebuilding the Israelitish kingdom in Palestine that was once destroyed …” — The Symbolic Codes, Vol. 13, No. 1, 2, p. 6.  

Prophet Zechariah then further said :

“Zechariah 14 : 3, 4 — “Then shall the Lord go forth, and fight against those nations, as when He fought in the day of battle. And His feet shall stand in that day upon the Mount of Olives, which is before Jerusalem on the east, and the Mount of Olives shall cleave in the midst thereof toward the east and toward the west, and there shall be a very great valley; and half the mountain shall remove toward the north, and half of it toward the south.”

And then Bro. Houteff in his interpretation said :

“At that time Jerusalem, that now is, falls, the Lord’s feet shall stand upon Mount of Olives and there make a very great valley; that is, remove the obstacles and hindrances, and thus prepare the land for the returning of His people. Then it is that the prophecy of Zechariah 10 : 8 – that the Lord shall “h i s s” for His people – will have met its fulfillment.

Zechariah 14 : 5 — “And ye shall flee to the valley of the mountains; for the valley of the mountains shall reach unto Azal : yea, ye shall flee, like as ye fled from before the earthquake in the days of Uzziah king of Judah : and the Lord my God shall come, and all the saints with thee.”

Having thus opened the way for the re-establishment of the house of Judah, His people, who beforehand have been informed of it through the present Truth, will flee to the valley, to where the Lord’s feet stand, as quickly as if they were fleeing from an earthquake; and all the saints thereafter follow after them. There are several facts in this scripture itself which prove that this event is pre-millennial : (1) Note that the Lord’s feet stand on the mount in the day of the war in which Jerusalem is taken by the wicked nations. (2) Those that flee to the valley do not descend from heaven. (3) They can not be the wicked for they do not flee away from the Lord, but flee to Him, to where His feet stand. (4) All the saints follow after them.  

“In that day, saith the Lord, I will smite every horse with astonishment, and his rider with madness : and I will open Mine eyes upon the house of Judah, and will smite every horse of the people with blindness.” Zechariah 12 : 4. That is, God surprisingly confuses the wicked that they begin to act like mad men. At the time the Lord brings this to pass, He protects the house of Judah.

“In that day will I make the governors of Judah like an hearth of fire among the wood, and like a torch of fire in a sheaf; and they shall devour all the people round about, on the right hand and on the left : and Jerusalem shall be inhabited again in her own place, even in Jerusalem.” — Zechariah 12 : 6.  

“When the Lord smites the armies of the nations, He also makes the rulers of Judah like an hearth of fire among the wood. Thus shall they with the “everlasting gospel” devour all the heathen round about, and thus shall Jerusalem be inhabited safely by God’s faithful people.

“So it is that “in the days of these kings (not after their days) shall the God of heaven set up a Kingdom, which shall never be destroyed : and the Kingdom shall not be left to other people, but it shall break in pieces and consume all these kingdoms, and it shall stand forever.” Daniel 2 : 44.

“Then it shall come to pass that “many nations shall come, and say, Come, and let us go up to the mountain of the Lord, and to the house of the God of Jacob ; and he will teach us of His ways, and we will walk in His paths : for the law shall go forth of Zion, and the Word of the Lord from Jerusalem.” — Micah 4 : 2. —- Timely Greetings, Vol. 1, No. 19, pp. 4, 5, 6,

Conclusion

We have been assured through the prophecy of Zechariah 14 : 2 that the coming world war would take place in the holy land of Palestine. Since the war is mainly for the re-establishment of the kingdom of Judah in the holy land, whereas the war itself is to be won by the Gentile nations from out side Palestine, so that “the city shall be taken, and the houses rifled, and the women ravished; and half of the city shall go forth into captivity, and the residue of the people shall not be cut off from the city.” We must, therefore, be fully convinced that through the prophecies of His own servants, the Lord Himself has assured us that the whole affairs are still in His own hand.

Though the war is to take place in the holy land, the Palestine, whereas you and me would not at all be implicated in the war, our fate of salvation, however, will thoroughly be dependent upon the sealing message of the angel that should have been united his voice with the angel of Revelation 18 : 1 in the SPIRIT OF PROPHECY. And concerning this last angel Mrs. White said :

“Then I saw another mighty angel commissioned to descend to the earth, to unite his voice with the third angel, and give power and force to his message. Great power and glory were imparted to the angel, and as he descended, the earth was lightened with his glory.” — Early Writings, p. 277.

As the third angel of Revelation 14 is the same with the sealing angel of Revelation 7, then when the other mighty angel of Revelation 18 : 1 commissioned to descend to the earth, to unite his voice with the third angel in 1929, that from then on the earth would finally be enlightened, beginning first in our own Church of the Laodiceans.

Then will the statements from both the angels here below apply in force :

“THE SEALING TIME IS VERY SHORT, AND WILL SOON BE OVER. NOW IS THE TIME, WHILE THE FOUR ANGELS ARE HOLDING THE FOUR WINDS, TO MAKE OUR CALLING AND ELECTION SURE.” —- Early Writings, p. 58.

“NOT ONE OF U S WILL EVER RECEIVE THE SEAL OF GOD WHILE OUR CHARACTERS HAVE ONE SPOT OR STAIN UPON IT. IT IS LEFT WITH US TO REMEDY THE DEFECTS IN OUR CHARACTERS TO CLEANSE THE SOUL TEMPLE OF EVERY DEFILEMENT. THEN THE LATTER RAIN WILL FALL UPON US AS THE EARLY RAIN FELL UPON THE DISCIPLES ON THE DAY OF PENTECOST.” — Testimony Treasures, vol. 2, p. 69.

“ALL THAT ARE FOUND MEMBERS OF THE CHURCH AT THE FULFILLMENT OF EZEKIEL 9 WILL EITHER RECEIVE THE SEAL AND BE OF THE 144.000, OR ELSE BE LEFT WITHOUT AND FALL UNDER THE SLAUGHTER WEAPONS OF THE FIVE MEN. ONLY THOSE WHO SIGH AND CRY FOR ALL THE ABOMINATIONS IN THE CHURCH WILL ESCAPE FROM THE DESTRUCTION.”  – The Symbolic Code, vol. 1, no. 11, 12, p. 9.
