The Fruits of the Holy Spirit
Galatians 5 : 22, 23

The Apostle Paul said : “But The fruit of the Spirit is : LOVE, JOY, PEACE, LONGSUFFERING, GENTLENESS, GOODNESS, FAITH, MEEKNESS, TEMPERANCE : against such there is no law.” — Galatians 5 : 22, 23. In the person of those who are under the guidance of the Holy Spirit, whatever their position is or status (in the Christian Church – Ephesians 4 : 11 – 13), it is always clear that the fruits of the Holy Spirit are growing inside them. Since the Holy Spirit itself could not be seen nor felt by our senses, then only the completeness and wholeness of the nine fruits of the Spirit of God, that will prove the existence of the Holy Spirit within us. All those also reflect the appreciation to the laws of the kingdom of heaven by a person. Strictly speaking, those who live up to the laws of the kingdom of heaven will surely reflect through their personality: Love, Joy, Peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, and temperance.  

It is clear that without the guidance of the Holy Spirit, even if one could have mastered and understood most of the Bible, he could not possibly reflect through his own personality the whole nine fruits of the Spirit of God. Evangelists, pastors and teachers even many of us may have been able to show: the Joy, Peace, Patience, Good Heart and Gentleness. Especially if these good qualities are born through innate talents derived from the ancestors. God had ever said: “… for I the Lord thy God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me; and shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love me and keep my commandments.” — Exodus 20 : 5, 6.

It is the mercy of God that has sent down most of the fruits of the Spirit that had ingrained in the person of the ancestors to their off-springs until now. But from all those mentioned above, there are 3 (three) pieces of the Spirit of God that are not only complete by themselves having been passed down to the thousands of generations that have come later, namely : l o v e, f a i t h, and t e m p e r a n c e.  Why and what is the reason ? These three are different from the other six, due to their changing character and continuity to grow. Therefore, even if suppose talent or character has been inherited, and the three fruits of the Spirit are not developed by ourselves, their facts of appearance will remain invisible.

The First Six Fruits of the Holy Spirit

What is meant by :  Joy, Peace, Patience, Courage, Good Heart and Gentle may no longer be new things to us. Even those who are still primitive enough to understand it. Yet, even though it is commonly understood, perhaps none of us has been consciously convinced that he has fully embraced the whole six fruits of the Spirit. Therefore, it is better to discuss all of them one by one here below.

J o y
Joy is a mirror of a healthy person spiritually and physically as well. This is an ideology based on the Law of God. Jesus once said: “But seek ye first the kingdom of God and His righteousness (spiritual), and all these things (material) shall be added unto you.” Matthew 6 : 33.

In the prophecies of Malachi predicting the conditions of the Laodicean  Church in the latter days, the suggestion of obtaining spiritual blessings has been affirmed first (Malachi 3 : 10) precedes the assurance of the material blessings placed in the next verse (verse 11).

History proves, that God’s spiritual healthy people are always happy even in the face of danger that threatens the body. This proves unequivocally that the FEELING of the Spirit is not a SHOW in the common sense of the world, but merely aimed at CHRISTIAN CONFIDENCE based on the unity of the laws of the heavenly kingdom alone. There is a lot of false excitement, which is unwittingly overwhelmingly shared by most Christians themselves, for their negligence to obey Jesus’ suggestion: ‘Seek thee first the kingdom of God and His righteousness …’

PEACE
In speaking of the Fruit of J O Y above, it is understandable that the JOY is personal. A happy person would have peace therein. But when we talk about the fruit of PEACE, then it will include more than one person. Surely it will start in the household. Happy and reconciling personalities in the home will be a good start in building a society, even up to a big country.

It cannot be denied, however, that after sin (1 John 3: 4) succeeded entering God’s people, PEACE is no longer fully visible. The Christian world itself is finally divided up to this day, even each one still admits he is under the guidance of the HOLY SPIRIT.

PEACE at this time in general is no longer a fruit of PEACE that is fully based upon the laws of God, but specifically PEACE in the sense of the world wide society, which is a peace in the sense of philosophy, in the political sense, in the sense of culture, in the sense of a limited environment or may be limited only in the sense of a sect of religion held by a community of people.

The existence of different backgrounds of understanding, then the fruit of PEACE really becomes difficult to live. So instead of PEACE, even the endless dispute that we continue to face in various human relationships in this world. Even within the same religious sect the PEACE is no longer clearly visible.

If we can realize that PEACE is one of the products of the Spirit of God, then the only PEACE we must establish, whether in the household, in the congregation, in society and in any relationship, is PEACE which is based on the laws of the kingdom of heaven alone. Jesus said: “Blessed are the reconciling, for they shall be called the children of God.” Matthew 5 : 9 That is, they are the citizens of the kingdom of heaven, for they seek every PEACE in this world based on the laws of God alone. They are the only people who always reconcile man to God.

PATIENCE OR LONG SUFFERING
Patience is personal, but the fruit of PATIENCE actually comes from God Himself. Therefore, do not mix the meaning of this product of the Holy Spirit with the meaning of patience adopted by the world community in general. God has divided two world histories, comprising the Old Testament History until the 31st AD of the Past date at the death of Christ, and the History of the New Testament, from the date of Christ’s death to His second coming. Testament means gospel. We all know that the Gospels as the laws of the kingdom of heaven were first written in this world by Moses in the year 1504 BC.

Along the journey of Israelite’s Exodus from Egypt to Canaan, the Promised Land, not a few of other nations had been slaughtered by them. Anyone who tried to block the Exodus’s journey had been killed. It is evident that even though God is known as a patient, merciful and forgiving God and despite His nature is clearly stated in the Command VI of the Basic Law of the Ten Commandments, but the fruit of PATIENCE and the long suffering of God is completely invisible in the  Old Testament History.

In the event of Achkan and his family during the Israelite Exodus journey after leaving the city of Jericho (Yuzak chapter 7, and in the event of Uza assigned to escort the Ark of the Covenant which contains the 2 logs of Torah Constitution (2 Samuel 6 : 6, 7), even in Dathan and Abiram cases along with their followers (Deuteronomy 11 : 6), and other various events, we can see how strictly the Lord God upholds His laws in the midst of His own people. This is how the Old Testament History is well known in the Bible as the age of Eye for Eye, Tooth for Tooth, Hand for Hand, Foot for Foot – (Leviticus 2 : 19, 21, Exodus 21 : 23, 24).

But after the coming of Christ by His so great sacrifice in the year 31 AD, and after having successfully redeemed man and woman on the hill of Golgotha, the Lord God again reveals His infinite PATIENCE. The end of the Old Testament History with its times of eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, and foot for foot, the world then enters the New Testament History with its famous “Time of Probation” (The Time of Salvation). To compensate for this infinite patience of God, Jesus then ordered: “And unto him that smiteth thee on the one cheek offer also the other; and him that taketh away thy cloke, forbid not to take thy coat also.” — Luke 6 : 29, that is, show your fruit of PATIENCE !

Please note that as soon as Jesus returns to heaven, then in that same year or later the Holy Spirit of the Early Rain has been poured out upon all His disciples as many as 120 in number of them in Jerusalem. This outpouring of the Holy Spirit of the Early Rain has fulfilled His own words to John 16 : 13. We are now under the guidance of the same Spirit, so as a citizen of heaven, we are to restrain ourselves in all matters, that is, to show the fruit of PATIENCE. to compensate for PATIENCE and TOLERANCE God is so great to the world up to the end of the future time of probation. So, under the guidance of the Holy Spirit while practicing all the Truths of the Kingdom of God that have been revealed throughout the History of the New Testament. Now, all the soldiers of Christ must show the fruit of PATIENCE. For this Jesus gave His assurance in the following words :

“Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness’ sake : for their’s is the kingdom of heaven. Rejoice, and be exceeding glad : for great is your reward in heaven : for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you.” — Matthew 5 : 10, 12.

Christians have to be patient and succumb to everything facing all the challenges that have plunged them into violations of God’s laws.

POLITE
Polite or Courteous manifests a personal attitude. Therefore, polite is also one of person’s personal traits. Because human attitudes are heavily dependent on environmental and educational influences, the POLITE problem is unlikely to be one hundred percent the same everywhere in the world. Something that is still considered polite in America and Europe, may no longer be polite in Indonesia; likewise something that is still considered polite in the big cities, may not be so in the village, even though the people share the same religious ideology. Therefore, it should be remembered that the POLITE, which is spoken of here at times is not POLITE in the general sense in various parts of the world, for it is a product of the Holy Spirit that comes from the laws of God alone.

In fact there are many POLITE attitudes that are not all outlined into details in the codification of the laws of the kingdom of heaven. Therefore, if the various attitudes of POLITE that we meet, it is not contrary to the laws of God, then all that cannot be also a product of the Holy Spirit that comes directly from the Law of Nature. Keep in mind that the Law of Nature is also part of God’s vast laws.

As the law of God contains two main human duties: (1). To love God with all our heart and (2) to love our fellowmen as ourselves, this POLITE attitude must be properly demonstrated toward both goals.

Being POLITE to God begins at the time of prayer. In accordance with its laws, God’s people are obliged to worship (prostrate on the ground) to God while praying to Him. Except in certain circumstances, for example while on the bus, during the trip, while sitting to work, while doing exam paper and so on, then people are allowed to pray in the heart without the need to worship prostration. At the same time this POLITE attitude must also be shown in the FAITH, that is, when we come to God not as hypocrites, who just want to beg whereas most of GOD’s laws are intentionally kept neglected.

KIND-HEARTED OR GOOD HEART
KIND-HEARTED or The Good Heart is the product of the Holy Spirit most commonly found in human relationships. Therefore, the KIND-HEARTED is personal. KIND-HEARTED will always encourage to give something to others, then by itself people who have this KIND-HEARTED will always have a high sense of weigh against each other.

God’s People of KIND-HEARTED will always want to give to his fellow the knowledge of the laws of the kingdom of heaven to better recognize the nature of God, which can not only bring spiritual happiness, but also physical happiness (the adequacy of clothing, food) for each other. This is the best gift of the Fruit of the KIND-HEARTED, that is in accordance with the words of Jesus: “And as you would have people do for you, do the same for them.” Peter also explained it as follows: “Silver and gold are not mine, this is what I can give you: By the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, rise and walk.” This means that even the poorest of God’s people will always be able to provide something of great value.

But unfortunately, humanity today is too distracted, so the best gift of encouragement from the fruit of this KIND-HEART of Holy Spirit is often underestimated. People generally prefer to appreciate material gifts rather than spiritual gifts.

GENTLE
Gentle is a personal attitude that is primarily manifested through speech. There are many people who have this attitude, either because it is derived as a gift of self-nature from the ancestors, or even because of environmental and educational influences. But it is necessary to know that the G E N T L E that is spoken of here is a Holy Spirit product, which is based upon the laws of God alone.

God’s people who are guided by the Holy Spirit not only produce gentleness, but will bear the whole 9 (nine) pieces of the Spirit. Thus the nine pieces of the Spirit will support each other in his personality, so that he will manifest a much changed personal attitude than ever before.

People often interpret this fruit of Gentleness apart from the 8 (eight) other fruits of the Spirit. That is why, many think that evangelists, pastors and teachers, deserve to be SO LONGER, in the sense, the ever-fluid people who speak the language, are good at creating sermons that reassure the heart, need not be firm in imposing obedience to all the laws of the kingdom of heaven that are taught, to have a lot of tolerance towards lawbreakers, and clever to reassure those who are troubled.

Many people think that because in the present time of probation God is so generous, long-suffering and forgiving, then evangelists, shepherds and teachers should be good enough and tolerant in leading the congregation. Is that true? As a result of these weaknesses, the Christian World has finally been infiltrated by the Enemies of the KINGDOM OF GOD which continues to bring in its customary traditions into Christian worship. Unspecified clothing modes have been exhibited precisely in the official worship rooms, while the rulers of the CHRISTIAN CHURCH are no longer “up to heart” to discipline their congregations.

Even the sermons that are presented are just the same old sermons ever presented before, from week to week, from month to month, and from year to year, without any significant development. And so it follows that the today Christians then take their own shortcuts to heaven, by saying:  THE MAIN THING IS TO DO GOOD.

Those who try to carry on reform in an effort to restore all true Christian worship are often excluded and accused of being fanatical, harsh and perceived as a divisive tranquility of the people. Thus, then Ellen G. White says:

“Elijah was declared to be a troubler in Israel, Jeremiah a traitor, Paul a polluter of the temple. From that day to this, those who would be loyal to truth have been denounced as seditious, heretical, or schismatic. — The Great controversy, pp. 458, 459.

It is clear that the GENTLENESS shown by Elijah, Jeremiah, Paul, the Protestant reformers and the faithful up until this time are not easily understood. Yet those are the true Gentleness as the fruit of the Spirit.

 
THE OTHER THREE FRUITS OF THE HOLY SPIRIT

The third fruit of the second and last spirit is LOVE, FAITH, and TEMPERANCE. We purposely placed the three spirits above this separately because they have been so confused in this world that, as a result, it is very difficult to find a people of God in the same faith in the same sense, agree, and talk about the things that same.

People will always tend to think according to the ideals of their religious organization. Even in the same religion one would think according to his own group. Meanwhile, all Christians generally admit, “Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth : for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak : and he will shew you things to come.” – John 16 : 13.

And since the Spirit of truth has come from the day of the first Pentecost, then the people of God in the end of this age should have been able to prove that all the truths and things that will come that are now gathered in the SPIRIT OF PROPHECY should be able to make people Christians of the same mind, agree and talk about the same things. But how is it?

Christian churches that have been built by Protestant reformers since the time of the DR. Martin Luther (Churches: Protestant, Presbyterian, Methodist, Baptist to the First Day of Adventist Church in William Miller’s time), all fallen and belong to “THE FALLING CHAPTER” fulfilled his prophecy of Revelation 14 : 8. “Babylon” the confusion resulting from the disruption of human language by God, which occurred in the post-flooding period, as humanity by their rebellion against God, again tried to build the failed Babylonian tower.

Then the Assembly of the Laodicean Church, again re-divided into several groups of reforming Organizations, resulting from the spiritual fall of the Angel of the Laodicean Church since its failure of the General Conference of SDA in 1888 in Minneapolis, USA.

And last re-breaking the Organization of the people of the SPIRIT OF PROPHECY (from Revelation 19 : 10), since the death of the last end-time prophet Victor T. Houteff, in 1955 ago. Which event has conformed to what previously been prophesied to Zechariah 13 : 7 which has been read:

“Awake, O sword, against my shepherd, and against the man that is my fellow, saith the Lord of hosts : smite the shepherd, and the sheep shall be scattered : and I will turn mine hand upon the little ones.” — Zechariah 13 : 7.

So starting from the above descriptions, then here we will discuss at first glance the main three fruits of the Spirit here below  :

L O V E
The servant of the Lord Mrs. White said:

“The Law of God is as sacred as God Himself. It is a revelation of His will, a transcript of His character, the expression of divine love and wisdom. The harmony of creation depends upon the perfect conformity of all beings, of everything, animate and inanimate to the law of the Creator. God has ordained laws for the government, not only of living beings, but of all the operations of nature. Everything is under fixed laws, which cannot be disregarded. But while everything in nature is governed by natural laws, man alone, of all that inhabits the earth, is amenable to moral law.“ — Patriarchs and Prophets, p. 52.

Re-read carefully the words of the servant of the Lord, then it is clear that the expression of God and the wisdom of God will be visible to the H U K U M ALLAH that’s all. So, if we want to show the world, that we have l o v e, then prove that we are followers of the Laws of God, namely the Basic Law of the Kingdom of Heaven and all the Rules of Implementation in the SPIRIT OF THE PROPHECY.

In the mean time we must also understand that obeying the Laws of God does not mean we no longer need to obey the laws of the country wherein we live. In order to love our neighbor as ourselves, we are obliged to obey all applicable state laws. Only the laws of the State that are contrary to God’s law which must be abandoned. Example: The Sunday Law which obliges all mankind to work on the Sabbath and rest only on Sundays. Such legal legislation will only be made by all Governments of the earth in the great tribulation to come. And that will cause great tribulation to come, because all of God’s people would have refused to obey them.

” L O V E “ problem has now been manipulated in such a way in the Christian world, that in general people have likened it to a mere fruit of an affection and other good deeds, which are solely addressed to fellow human beings who are in need of a help.

F A I T H
Faith is the practical doing of the things b e l i e v e d and t r u s t e d in the mind. Therefore, b e l i e f without understanding  could  not  be  deemed as f a i t h, that is based  upon  the  understanding  which  is  followed  by  the  p r a c t i c a l d o i n g. The Bible teaches that belief without work or deeds is useless. That is, if all those we have believed are not fully taken into the practical doing of the words, that would mean a failed worship to the Lord. The problem now is how far shall we believe and obeyed? Servant of the Lord Mrs. White said:

“When Nicodemus, the great teacher in Israel, came to Jesus, the Master laid before him the conditions of divine life, teaching him the very alphabet of conversion.” — 6 Testimonies, p. 154.

“The work for these last days is a missionary work. Present truth, from the first letter of its alphabet ( A )  to the last ( Z ), means missionary effort.”– Counsels on Health, p. 300.

F A I T H in all ages ever since the beginning is the same. But belief is clearly not the same. This should be understood, for the volume of the truth of God’s word available here on earth ever since the beginnings continues to rise to the end of the world to come. Though the Ten Commandments of the Constitution of the Kingdom of Heaven are permanent their rules of implementation, however, continue to develop and changeable. All the rules of implementation of the law that must be learned, to be understood, and furthermore to be obeyed in the practical doing of the words. But one might ask, is it possible that all the rules of Implementation of the Law of God could be fully understood to be obeyed ? For this the servant of God Mrs. White said:

“We may not, in this life, be able to explain the meaning of every passage of Scripture; but there are no vital points to practical truth that will be clouded in mystery.” — Counsels on diet and foods, p. 187.

That is, although it may not have been possible for the entire Bible and the SPIRIT OF PROPHECY to be fully understood, yet there will be no practical truth, or truth that should be obeyed in practical religion that will be kept in mystery from us.

T E M P E R A N C E
The argument here is to restrain from passion, especially from the lust of appetite. This SPIRIT kind of the Fruit will truly prove ourselves to be under the guidance of the HOLY SPIRIT. Those who adhere to this will first be visible from their habit of eating. They are generally holding to the principle : “EAT TO LIVE,” and not “LIVE TO EAT.” Therefore they strictly adhere to all provisions of the existing Law of Health. They are fully aware that disease is a sin, for sin is a result of the violation of the laws of Health. The laws of Health themselves are parts of the laws of the Kingdom of Heaven, which contain the rules of implementation of the basic law of the Ten Commandments. Jesus warned :

“But as the days of Noe were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark, and knew not until the flood came, and took them all away; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.” – Matthew 24 : 37 – 39.

The Bible never forbids people to eat and drink. The Bible also does not prohibit marrying or divorce. It is obviously understood that in the latter days these two forms of lawlessness or sin above will stand out. Many people eat and drink not for the sake of their health, but to satisfy their lust of appetite. Likewise, people will marry not to fill the earth with the adherents of the laws of the Kingdom of Heaven according to the Commandments of God – Genesis 1 : 28, but just to multiply the womb of women, which means to multiply the distress on earth. – Genesis 3 : 16.

Brother! Seek the Lord God while still healthy, so that we may love Him with all our hearts; and love our fellow men and women while we are still healthy, so that we may love them as ourselves. Speaking of the Law of Health, the servant of God Mrs. White ever said:

Year 1863:
“The Lord presented a general plan before me. I was shown that God would give to His commandment keeping people a reform diet, and that as they received this, their disease and suffering would be greatly lessened. I was shown that this work would progress.” — Counsels on Health, p. 531.

What did she mean by “a reform diet” can be seen in the following statements :

“Again and again I have been shown that God is trying to lead us back, step by step, to His original design, — that man should subsist upon the natural products of the earth.“   

“Vegetables, fruits and grains should compose our diet. Not an ounce of flesh meat should enter our stomachs. The eating of flesh is unnatural.  We are to return to God’s original purpose in the creation of man.  

“Any violation of the principle of eating and drinking will dull the various faculties of thought, making it impossible for them to like and appreciate the heavenly things or to place real value on them.” – Counsels on Diet and Food. p. 380.

Year 1871 :
“On December 10, 1871, I was again shown that health reform is one   branch of the great work which is to fit a people for the coming of the Lord. It is as closely connected with the third angel’s message as the hand is with the body.” – Testimony Treasures, vol. 1, p. 320.

Health Reform is one of the branches of the great work, which will prepare the Laodiceans for the coming of the Lord, both at his sudden arrival on Mount Zion in Palestine, and on His second coming that will come to pass  in the clouds of heaven, wherein  He will come as King of kings, and Lord of all lords.

As the relationship between the arms and the human body is so close, so is the relationship between health reform and the third angel’s message from the servant of God Mrs. White. That is the reason why she said :

“Our first duty, one which we owe to God, to ourselves, and to our fellow men, is to obey the laws of God. These include the laws of health.” — Counsels on Health, pp. 24, 25.

NOT PERFECT FRUITS

Precisely because of the negligence of the Israelites themselves in the history of the Old Testament, and because of Christians neglect during the dark ages of religion since the sixth century, then under the guidance of the Holy Spirit through the law of Nature, God Himself has inspired certain humans in some parts of this earth to participate in promoting His CHRISTMAS TREE to their followers as The CREATOR. Thus, there have been several other religions outside of the biblical religion, emphasizing His teachings on the rules governing relationships between people. In fact, all His teachings are actually just a description of COMMAND V up to COMMAND X of the Constitution of the Heavenly Kingdom.

Even in the Christian World itself, since the Principles of the Provisions of Public Law (Command I to Command IV) of the Basic Law of the TEN COMMANDMENTS of GOD, which had been described in various mysteries of the Bible prophecies and the parables of Jesus, are no longer successfully revealed, it is largely unaware that most Christians today based their religion only upon the motivation : ‘TO DO GOOD.’ The fruits of the SPIRIT of this unfinished product of Nature’s law are re-embraced by Christians themselves, and are now entrenched in the whole life of the world community. God’s great plan, and the lofty ideals of the pioneers of the religions of the world, both Bible prophets and the pioneers of unbiblical religions, to bring humanity to their own Creator, have failed to succeed. It means that the integrity of the nine Spirit-based fruits of the completeness of all the laws of the heavenly kingdom known on earth, will be even more difficult to attain, and the great nature of God’s character, merciful, compassionate, long-suffering, and forgiving will be more hard to understand.

FINAL CONCLUSIONS

Apostle Paul said : “But The fruit of the Spirit is : LOVE, JOY, PEACE, LONGSUFFERING, GENTLENESS, GOODNESS, FAITH, MEEKNESS, TEMPERANCE : against such there is no law.” — Galatians 5 : 22, 23.

There is no law against all the fruits of the Spirit. That is, all the fruits of the Spirit in the personal being of man would have already reflected his obedience to all the Law and the Testimony of Jesus, which is the SPIRIT OF PROPHECY.  Blessed is he! For this reason, again Jesus warned:

“NOT EVERY ONE THAT SAITH UNTO ME, LORD, LORD, SHALL ENTER INTO THE KINGDOM OF HEAVEN ; BUT HE THAT DOETH THE WILL OF MY FATHER WHICH IS IN HEAVEN.” – MATTHEW 7 : 21.

Not every religious person is also a citizen of the heavenly kingdom nor the people of God. Not even every Christian is by itself to be a people of God. Only those who observed all the laws of the kingdom of heaven in their practical religion, that will enable them to be known by all the fruits of the Spirit of God in their personal beings. The servant of the Lord Mrs. White said:

“THE EFFECT OF HOLY SPIRIT IS CHRIST’S LIFE IN THE SOUL. WE CAN NOT SEE CHRIST, AND CAN NOT SPEAK DIRECTLY TO HIM, BUT HIS H O L Y  S P I R I T  IS THE SAME NEAR WITH US WHEREVER WE ARE. IT WORKS IN OR ON THROUGH ANY PEOPLE WHO ACCEPTS CHRIST.” – (MS 41, 1897)
